If your current circumstances are extraordinarily intense in a way that feels unprecedented—and you are floundering a bit as you try to find a new place (way?) to rest—keep in mind that this has happened before.
Note: you are still here—learning and growing.
Last week I sent a short invitation to rest with the intention of talking about things coming around again – of hanging in there because, as Carly Simon sang, it will be coming around again and these things that break our hearts really create more room in them—if we let them.
I typed into the title space “Around”.
When I realized I wasn’t ready to pull that off and get to bed at a reasonable hour (Foundations for Rest 101), I reached for something easier to put into words—something that has also been helpful as I transition in so many ways.
Then I changed the title to “Now”—or so I thought.
After hitting “send”, a banner popped up on my phone notifying me of a new email message—“Around”.
Sigh.
So here I am again, because remembering that what is easy and lovely will come around again—as surely as the difficult and ugly—provides some continuity that can be actually quite stabilizing.
May you rest right where you are and may your rest be sweet.

Life happens!!
It is ok.
I think the older we get the more we realize that if we hang tight, we can get through stuff. It’s also important not to dwell on the past or the future, but live in the present. I ask myself the question, “am I OK today?“
We can trust God, yesterday, today, and forever.
