Here is an easy exercise you can do to help your body rest. It can also improve your emotional state because of the neurological connections.
Try testing your range of motion before and after – you will likely be surprised to notice that you have improved freedom of movement.
Lie comfortably on your back.
Weave your fingers together and place both hands behind your head, cradling the back of your skull. (If one shoulder is uncomfortable in that position, just use one arm and hand.)
Keep your head still and resting on your hands — do not rotate it. Using your eyes only, look as far to the right as comfortable. Hold for 30–60 seconds.
Bring your eyes back to center, keeping your head still.
Now look as far to the left as comfortable. Hold for 30–60 seconds.
Note: Within the 30–60 seconds you may swallow, yawn, or sigh — this is a good sign that your autonomic nervous system is relaxing.
Test your range of motion, turning your head from side to side and notice how it feels.
Take a deep breath and exhale.
Repeat as desired.
