Sometimes you can snag a moment of rest just by noticing something in your environment.
Glance around… What do you see?
Sitting in my reading chair, I glanced up and noticed the bougainvillea pouring like a pink waterfall over the green painted railing of our balcony.
This is at least the 700th time I have noticed, and admired, the beauty of our neighbor’s bougainvillea that grows up and over – giving us a carpet of color on the other side of our railing.
But in that one glance, I I felt for a moment that I might be looking at a picture in a travel magazine – advertising a lovely spot on the Mediterranean.
I can stand on or apartment buildings roof, and show you gorgeous pictures of the sun sinking into the sea beyond Beirut. And from that same spot, I can show you the picture of an ugly cement rooftop with solar panels lined up at an odd angle, strung up electric cords, broken, cement blocks, dead plants, and moldy growth where water seeps through a spot in the wall.
Not appealing at all.
We don’t live in a picture – but when I glance at the bougainvillea through the patio door, for a moment, I feel that wonderful feeling that I feel when I look at pictures in a travel book with destinations I’d love to visit.
And here I am, right here in one.
Glance around – there must be something in your environment right now worthy of a picture in a travel magazine—inviting you to something beautiful, peaceful, and restful.
