A great illustration! At first it was oh my!! This is disastrous! And then it was relief to realize there was another vehicle, carrying the truck and going in the RIGHT direction.
It creates a number of insights:
1) only God has the perspective to fully appreciate our situations.
2) God often is the vehicles carrying away the certain death vehicles of distraction that we so fear. And even though it looks like we are at their mercy, he takes those vehicles going the wrong way and even while continuing to be in the wrong direction to carry them away from harming His own.
3) don’t get off the road of God’s calling, because if God has called us, he will open the way - even in what seem like impossible circumstances.
Such great insights--thank you Jane! Especially helpful to remember that God is at work, and carrying those things away, even though at first (and maybe for awhile) it doesn't look like it.
Just because it looks like an impending disaster or an impossible situation doesn’t mean it is so. We need to exercise our faith (believing/trusting without seeing) muscle every day by studying the Word, worshipping Him and RESTING in His promises.
Great picture and reminder to seek Him in all things because our perspective is always skewed (sinners lens).
Yes! I usually pick a word for the title that represents what the invitation is about--I think this one is perspective. What a relief to remember that God's perspective takes in every single detail (in the right proportions!).
Rest is inexplicable. It is a choice, a deliberate act of rebellion against the prevailing hustle. Sometimes life feels like this photo. We don’t have to wait for all of the obstacles ahead to be out of the way to tell ourselves we can breathe. Our Father gives us that permission. Trust is taking it.
Julie--what a powerful choice of words--"act of rebellion" and "Trust is taking it". Sometimes I still slip into my previous understanding of rest as being doing "nothing"!
Also this. I don’t think God is mad at us for being afraid in scary situations where we lack perspective. But the more we trust Him, the less injury to our mind, bodies, and souls.
Thank you for this photo and inviting us to respond!
Yes! And in the process and practice our trust grows.
Just realizing now that my reaction of calmly grabbing my phone for a picture instead of freaking out (upon looking up and seeing the front of that truck) was based on trust in Ricardo's driving and the traffic laws/unlikelihood that a truck would be on a separated highway in the middle of nowhere (away from onramps) coming the wrong direction. All based on experience over time.

Thank you for articulating our role.

My reactions in brief:
YIKES !!!
What in the world?
Oh, wow!
Hmm. Perspective. God has it. We don’t. Might as well trust Him.
