It’s the rest of the week Sometimes perseverance necessarily precedes rest.
Sometimes our work can be so intense/challenging/difficult/demanding beyond our readily available resources that we may be tempted to stop, to abort the mission.
Yes, there is a time for letting go.
Also yes, giving up is not a short-cut to rest.
The crucible of intense work for some chosen purpose is a wonderful place to sort out what it means to do the work of rest. We get to figure out how to get something done, how to rest, when to rest, and when to keep going.
And along the way we learn what it means to preserver.
Naming whatever the work is can be helpful—as well as asking a few question:
What is the actual work?
Why are you doing it?
What about it feels/is hard?
Is there anything enjoyable in the work?
How will you feel when you’ve reached your goal?
May your rest be sweet.
