(Apologies for the tardy delivery – Internet/phone challenges while traveling…)
It’s the rest of the week and I’d like to offer you a pomegranate along with the customary invitation to rest.
How do you feel about pomegranates?
Are you distracted by all those seeds—bulky roughage to chew through for a few drops of juice?
Or, are you delighted by their rich color and the way the light transforms those seeds into living gems—edible rubies just waiting to be mined and popped into your mouth, where a gentle pressing releases a flood of flavor and juicy sweetness.
We are in Egypt right now and it is the height of pomegranate season. The combination of fertile Nile soil, strong sun, careful irrigation, traditional varieties, and quick harvests all contribute to make Egyptian fruits and vegetables being tastier than what I’m accustomed to.
The pomegranates are delicious, sweet, juicy, and, happily, affordable.
(Oh—yes—as you probably know they are a super food and offer and impressive array of health benefits.)
The work of mining those tasty jewels provides just enough of a task to feel like you’ve accomplished something when you pop those things into making the reward even sweeter—It’s so fun. I had to take a video of it.
May you find some simple pleasure that fills your life with juiciness and joy.
And may your rest be sweet.
Alicia
